The Magic Locks can lock down checkboxes, radio buttons, entry fields, buttons,
text, RTF controls - any type of control that you want to lock. By default it locks everything if
the form is called in ViewOnly mode. However, you can set it to Change mode and
open up some fields that you may want the user to be able to enter data into, for
example a text field with comments. It can also be used with forms in Insert and Change mode
when the locking is conditional.
The Magic Locks consist of a set of Classes and templates that enhance the
View Only forms to better indicate read-only controls. It also locks
checkboxes, radio buttons, drop down controls, etc. which can not be set
as read-only. This reduces confusion, as users can not make visual changes to the data.
The Magic Locks can also allow updates of certain fields in View mode, which
is not possible with regular View mode. This allows users to update certain
fields even if the rest of the form is completely locked.
Settings for each control can be overridden in the procedure template.
Background color, font color and font style for locked controls can be set
with a global template and overridden in a procedure template.
We have also released a demo application that demonstrates the use
of the Magic Locks. This demo is also included in the Magic Locks
install so you can see exactly how we did it.
