The Icetips SQL browse templates was originally created by Andy Stapleton of Cowboy Computing Solutions.
In 2002 Icetips took the product over and we have made a lot of new additions and improvements
to the product in the past years.
Version 6.0 was released in July 2003 and the current build is 6.108 from October 27, 2006.
You can use the SQL templates with Clarion 5, 5.5, 6.0 - 6.3. The
SQL templates are for the ABC template chain only. The SQL browses
are replacements for the ABC browses, not additions.
The SQL browse templates are compatible with most SQL
dialects. They are in use with various backend databases, such as SQL Server (MS-SQL),
Oracle, Sybase, MySQL and more. You can also use them with any database that supports ODBC.
You get a lot of options with the Icetips SQL templates. Header click sorting,
powerful locators, you can construct your own Select statement, call SQL functions
to fill columns or call stored procedures. You can use colors, icons, styles,
you even have a built in GreenBar effect, all of which make your browses appealing
and easy to use. Filters can be applied to the entire browse or to individual
columns.
In the beginning of July 2003, Icetips released a new version, 6.0, that includes
a wealth of new options and features. Very powerful record priming when inserting
lets you groom the priming to exactly what you need. Fields can be assigned values,
variables, NULL or even functions called to assign values. Fields can be primed
both before and after the record is added to the table making it possible to insert
records that have fields that can not be NULL, without hand coding.
You get a manual with almost 100 pages including users guide and complete class reference.
Please download the documentation.
Some of the features added in or after version 6.0 are listed below.
- Automatic setup for local variables
- Full support for icons and conditional icons
- Full support for colors and conditional colors
- Full support for styles
- Easy to use Style Builder
- Default sort column can be specified
- Default sort order can be specified
- Columns can be moved around
- GreenBar effect
- Active Invisible option makes complex windows with many
browses load much faster than before.
- Multiple hot keys can be specified for update buttons.
- Supports LazyOpen
- Filters can now be literal strings without the templates
quoting the filter which makes it very easy to construct
filters from variables.
- The characters used to indicate sort order (+/-) can be changed
- The characters used to indicate the sort column (< and >) can be changed
- Both Runtime and compile time (TRN files) translations work with the new version.
- Reset fields can now be specified. The reset fields trigger a
complete refresh of the browse if the value of the reset variable changes.
- WindowComponent interface implemented which means that the browse refreshes
properly when it should without adding any embedded code
- Records can be primed prior to calling the Prime method and also after
calling the Prime method, which means priming can be pruned and
groomed exactly to what you need
- Priming includes setting a field to NULL, setting it to a variable or a
value or calling a function to assign it - all from template prompts.
- Built in method to call OutputDebugString to set up simple and easy
debugging in the classes and in your procedures that use the SQL templates.
- 96 page manual, which you can download here
- Version 6 is compatible with Clarion 5.5 and Clarion 6
